How North Star Works.

North Star is not software you configure. It is the one system that runs your whole business, built around the way you already work. We set it up, hand it off, and keep it running. No jargon. No bloated software.

How We Work

Every engagement starts with listening. Here is what working with MinnSight looks like.

PHASE 1

Discovery

We ask the right questions to learn how your business runs, who is on your team, and where you lose the most time. No templates. No guessing.

PHASE 2

Build

We build North Star around the way you work. You see it before it goes live and sign off on everything before we hand it over.

PHASE 3

Launch and Support

We set your launch timeline with you during onboarding. We make sure your team knows how to use North Star and keep it running after launch.

North Star is a custom operations system for small service businesses. Jobs, schedule, customers, invoicing, and the record of what actually happened, all in one place instead of five.

We do not sell you software and hand you a login. We build it around how your business already works, then we host it, maintain it, and change it when you change. Flat monthly price, no per-tech fees, no five-figure setup.

There are three levels and two standalone modules. Here is how to tell them apart.

Core: the Operations Hub

Core is the foundation. Customers, jobs, scheduling, dispatch, invoicing, and a clean record of every job you have ever run. Most of what it removes is the repeated handling that sits between jobs rather than the work itself.

It suits an owner-operator or a small crew who is currently running the business out of a calendar, a phone, and a spreadsheet, and who is starting to drop things. If your main symptom is missed jobs and forgotten follow-ups, Core fixes that.

Everything in Core is yours to keep using as you grow. Moving up a level later is an addition, not a migration.

Plus: Core with the Owner Dashboard

Plus is Core with the money side switched on. You get the reporting layer, job costing, margin by job type, and the visibility that tells you which work is worth taking.

This is the level most shops pick. It is the most popular for a simple reason: once the schedule stops breaking, the next question is always where the money is going, and Core alone does not answer that.

Plus suits shops with two or more service lines, three or more field people, or anyone about to price a season and wanting to price it from evidence.

Complete: Plus with the Customer Portal

Complete adds the customer-facing layer and the deeper automation. Client access, online booking, automated reminders and follow-ups, recurring service management, and the workflows that remove the repetitive office work.

Complete suits a shop running maintenance agreements or recurring routes, a shop with commercial accounts that expect self-service, or an owner trying to get out of the office chair and back into the business.

Standalone Module: Owner Dashboard

If your scheduling works fine and your problem is purely visibility, you do not need a whole system. The Owner Dashboard has its own build fee and monthly, both on pricing.

It sits on top of what you already run and shows you money in, money owed, work completed but not yet invoiced, and gross margin broken out by job type. It is the fastest way to find out which of your service lines is actually paying for the others.

Full detail is on the Owner Dashboard page.

Standalone Module: Customer Portal

If your problem is the phone rather than the numbers, start on the customer side. The Customer Portal has its own build fee and monthly, both on pricing.

Your customers get a branded login where they can see their service history, report a problem, request work, book online inside rules you set, pay an invoice, and get reminded when recurring service is due. It needs a working CRM and billing setup underneath it, which we will check during the audit.

Full detail is on the Customer Portal page.

Both standalone modules credit their build fee toward a full North Star build if you move up later. You never pay twice for the same foundation.

Spreadsheet Rescue, a flat one-time fee

Some shops are not ready for a build because their records are the problem. Spreadsheet Rescue is a one-time fee, listed on pricing.

We take the spreadsheets, the exports, and the half-finished files you have been maintaining, and we turn them into clean, structured data you can actually use. Duplicate customers merged, addresses standardized, job history reconstructed where the trail exists, and a single source of truth at the end of it.

It credits toward a build. If you are not sure whether you are ready for a system, this is the low-risk first step.

Add-On: After-Hours Phone Answering

Any level can add after-hours answering, priced on pricing. Calls that come in outside your hours get answered by a person, triaged against rules you set, and written straight into your job system so the morning starts with a queue instead of a voicemail box.

HVAC shops in particular should look at the HVAC page, because emergency calls are where the money and the reputation both live.

How to Choose Without a Sales Call

Pick Core if jobs are getting missed. Pick Plus if you cannot tell which jobs make money. Pick Complete if your customers and your recurring work need to run themselves. Pick a standalone module if only one side of the business is broken. Pick Spreadsheet Rescue if your records are not ready for any of it.

If you would rather not guess, run the product selector or take the free audit. The audit is written, it takes a few minutes, and nobody will call you to talk about it. If you are still weighing whether to buy something standard, configure it yourself, or have it built, that is the buy, configure or build question.

Start With the Free Audit

Take the free audit. We look at how your shop runs today and send back a written recommendation with a level, a price, and a reason. No call required, and no obligation to buy anything.

Common questions

No. The monthly price is the monthly price. Whether you have three field people or thirty, your bill does not move. That is the main reason shops move to us from per-seat tools.

Most builds run four to eight weeks depending on level and on how clean your existing data is. Core is fastest. Complete takes longest because of the customer-facing pieces and the automation testing.

Tell us at the audit. Because each system is custom built, additions are usually a scoping question rather than a "the software cannot do that" question. We will quote it honestly and tell you if it is a bad idea.

Your data is yours and you can take it out in standard formats at any time. We build and host the system, so the system itself stays with us, which is the tradeoff for not paying a five-figure setup fee.
